Can I withdraw and be funded again?

Hi,

I’m currently on a NHS preregistration masters. But unfortunately the travelling to and from is becoming too difficult to sustain for me. I’ll hold my hands up and admit I didn’t realise 2 hours there and 2 hours back would be so difficult for me having children etc. I’m exhausted.

My question is, I’ve been offered a place the same course but literally in my local city. 20 minutes away. It doesn’t start until January.

I need to make a decision. How long would I have to decide? Will SFE fund me again?

I’ve heard we usually have until Christmas to decide but I’m not sure how true this is.

Thanks!

The new uni will have given a deadline date to respond to their offer of placement. If you applied via a online portal it will usually tell you the dates there.
I would try and decide A.S.A.P as any money that you use from SFE may be classed as overpayment.

The Gov.uk site says: "Student Finance England (SFE) will reassess your student finance and you may need to repay any overpayment if you withdraw from one university to another:

Reassessment: SFE will reassess your entitlement to student finance, including any loans or grants you've received, based on your last date of attendance.

Overpayment: If you've received more than you're entitled to, you'll need to repay the difference. SFE will contact you to let you know how much you need to repay and how to do so.

Repayment plan: If you can't repay the full amount, you can ask SFE to set up a repayment plan.

New entitlement letter: SFE will send you a new student finance entitlement letter.

Future payments: SFE will stop any future payments to you and your university.

If you return to university in the same academic year, your university will let SFE know. If you return in a new academic year, you'll need to reapply for student finance."

I would call SFE and discuss it with them.
I would also recommend speaking to someone at your current UNI to see if they can support you.

I hope you can get it sorted and there is no shame is realising things are too much.
