masters at Cambridge

I recently graduated with a 2:1(63%) in law. Wondering if it is worth applying for masters at Cambridge with a 2:1. I plan to study Archaeology. has anyone gotten into to masters at Cambridge with a lower 2:1. Do I have a chance or shall I not bother to apply at all?

With Masters, you are not limited to the number of universities you can apply to, unlike when you applied through UCAS, however, some universities do charge you for applications from what I remember.

Masters aren’t as competitive so, you shouldn’t find it too difficult in terms of competitiveness (Relative to Bachelors) and it looks like you meet the entry requirements.

If you’re willing to put the time, effort and any application fees in, then go for it but with a uni like that, I wouldn’t hold your breath as with those universities, they normally can cherry pick anyone and everyone.

Not trying to put you down, I am just saying you meet the criteria but meeting the criteria and being considered are different matters entirely.

Personally, I decided to get some experience before applying to my Masters (I went to UWE for both my BSc and MSc in Biomedical Science but didn’t go to any Russel Group unis because I couldn’t work in diagnostics if I did…). I worked in a hospital for three years prior to applying for my MSc to give my application a boost and to put some money in my pockets, that way when I left my MSc, I would have experience and the qualifications.

Just a hint in the final a paragraph as it will also boost your application as opposed to someone fresh out of uni!

It's not the low 2.1 that is likely to be the issue, more the transition from Law to Archeology. It's a very strong, traditional and competitive Arch department, with a surfeit of strong Arch applicants. What have you got in your background that will be competitive against Arch, Arch and Anth, etc type undergrads, who have spent years furtling around in ditches?

They are, like most Cam degrees, quite interdisciplinary - but the legal backgrounds seem to go for the Heritage MPhil (in my limited experience).
