Eligibility with previous study for career change

I'm in my late 40s and looking at options for retraining to change career - thinking either physio, sports science or psychology. I had student loans for my undergrad back in 1994-97 (now wiped as it's been so long). I have a masters (1999) and a PhD (2016) in completely unrelated subjects (english and music) both self-funded.

Before I make a final decision on subject and apply for courses, am I eligible for a student loan?

I may apply for UG or PG level study, depending on what subject I choose - physio would need to be UG but psychology I could do an MSc conversion course. Do you organise the Postgrad loans too?

Also, with Psychology, I would likely have to do 2x separate masters courses - one conversion and then one in the specialist area I choose - to be able to be registered with the professional body. Would this mean I could only access funding for one of those courses?

Hi there, so we can check eligibility, can you confirm the full name of the course and university and just to clarify, will this be a Postgraduate Healthcare course? Thanks, Jason

Thanks Jason - I haven't decided yet so the current options are:

Winchester uni:
BSc Physiotherapy
BSc Sports and Exercise Science
BSc Sports and Exercise Psychology
MSc Applied Sports Psychology

Wolverhampton uni (or possible another uni - still researching this one)
MSc Psychology (conversion) - distance learning

MMU:
BSc Sports Science - part-time, distance learning

Hi boakster,

You would be able to get funding for an undergraduate physiotherapy course as this is an Allied Health Professional exception course. For the other courses you would not be eligible for funding as you have a higher level qualification (phd) and these are not exception courses.

Thanks,
Calum

Hi can I just check - if I did the psychology MSc conversion part-time, would that be eligible for funding?

Hi boakster,

No, you would not be eligible to study a Masters in Psychology part time as you already hold a phd.

Thanks,
Calum
