Computer Science at Lancaster

Hi there,

I am currently considering studying Computer Science at Lancaster and am in the process of applying to universities for 2025. I am curious to hear the opinions about the course and teaching from some current computer science students, so if anyone could share their experiences, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi @LicenceM,
Whilst I don't study computer science, i can provide some insight into what studying at Lancaster is like. Firstly, Lancaster is a campus based university meaning that your 1st year accommodation, lecture halls, shops and bars are all a close walk away making it a convenient place to live. Also, Lancaster is one of the few collegiate universities in the UK which has really benefitted me as a student, as colleges are a great way to socialize and make friends as they act a small community on campus as well as each college offering lots of weekly events and wellbeing support.
For the computer science course, i would recommend looking at the types of modules you could expect to study on the course at different universities, as you may be taught different modules dependent on what each universities computer science department researches and specializes in. A list of Lancaster's typical modules can be found here Computer Science BSc Hons (G400) - Lancaster University
Hope this helps, and if you have any questions feel free to ask!

Do you think the university not being a Russel group has any effect on its prestige compared to a Russel Group Uni. I'm not sure if this really matters but it might be a bit of a sticking point for me.
