Medicine Application

I’m an A level student doing Bio, chem and physics. Predicted 3 A*. EPQ grade A. Got a UCAT of 2500😭 and Band 1. GCSEs: 988888876
Which unis should I apply to?
Currently considering Sheffield, Exeter, Cardiff, Liverpool. (My first choice was Cambridge, but idk with that UCAT)

Hi,
I'm sorry your UCAT didn't go as well as you'd have hoped. It sounds like you've got good GCSEs and predicted grades though. I would prioritise applying to Unis that do not use UCAT as strongly in their selection criteria. There are lots of medicine forums on here where you can find out which medical schools prioritise which attributes and tests.
Sheffield does weight the UCAT quite heavily, but you would have met the cut off for interview with your score if you'd have applied last year which is a good sign, although cannot guarantee for this year. https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/smph/undergraduate/medicine-admissions - you can see the cut-offs on the website. I would recommend looking at these for other universities too, to give you a better idea.
I wish you luck with all your applications, and if you need any help let me know!
Evie (final year medic at UoS)

Tysm!! I really appreciate it. Do you think my application is strong enough to potentially get an offer? Ive seen plenty of people get in/not get in to medicine with similar ucat scores

Hey,
If the cut-off for interview is below your UCAT score then you'll be able to get an interview. After you have been selected for interview, your score will not make a difference to your application any more (as far as I am aware, it is only used to select students for interview). After that, it is down to your interview performance. If you get selected for interview at any of the universities you have applied to, do lots of preparation with lots of different people who can give you feedback. Most medical schools are mainly looking for someone with caring attributes and good communication skills.
I hope all your applications go well! please let me know if you have any other questions,
Evie
