AQA A-Level Biology Exam Techniques

Hi, I'm a year 12 student doing A-level biology.

On my first test for the subject, I only got 15/32 even though I revised and a lot of my knowledge was correct. I got an A*A in combined science at GCSE with WJEC. I need at least an A to go to my desired University so I'm starting to worry.

Does anyone have any tips for AQA biology exams? I'm hesitant to do past papers because it's only the beginning of the course and I know I will need them later on.

hey, current year 13 student here predicted an A in biology.

topic questions on physics and maths tutor specifically are extremely useful, as they only include questions on that topic and so you can save the full past papers till later. id recommend doing current specification ones and previous ones to really establish that understanding.
the application and fact recall questions in the AQA textbook are also very helpful, i believe, because they may require you to sort of think outside of the box or recall key terms that usually do come up
finally, active recall of mark schemes is very very important! the questions you do practice make sure you regularly go over mark scheme specific terminology as AQA biology is very specific as to which words you need to include!!
flashcards also are a good way of revising- i make mine from Miss Estruchs youtube.

do not stress over one test. considering it is your first test at AS level, you can only go upwards and onwards!! best of luck:smile:

I forward this 100%. Practise questions really help with exam technique and key words. Also I suggest kerboodle if you’re struggling to understand a concept as they go into detail abt everything basically. And since this is your first test, you now know your weaknesses and can easily improve this in your next test. So don’t give up!
