Could I get into an astrophysics course with Maths and Physics.

I would like to take Astrophysics at uni, but I did not put enough effort into my exams and got grades of D in maths and a D in physics. I did take b-tec music and got a distinction but I doubt this would help me in my application. Im planning to retake my a-levels this year and I believe I would get higher grades, however I'm not too sure if I would be considered based on my subject choice. is there any advice on if retakes are the right choice and if me having taken just physics and maths to be a problem for my applications.

astrophysics courses generally have high grade requirements, so it's definitely worth retaking maths and physics. i believe royal holloway do a physics with music course, so that might be something you'd be interested in

Perhaps look at the Astronomy and Planetary Sciences degree with the Open University. Either the straight BScHons or the Master of Physics (Astrophysics with Space Science) https://www.open.ac.uk/courses/science/degrees/integrated-masters-of-physics-astrophysics-with-space-science-m06-ast No previous qualifications needed!

Hi there,

We offer a variety of undergraduate Physics degrees, including Astrophysics and Physics with Music if that's of interest to you too. You can find out more about our Physics courses here.

We would advise contacting our Admissions team to discuss entry requirements for these courses. You can drop them a message via online form, or call them on +44 (0)1784 414944 to discuss your options.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes,
Royal Holloway, University of London
