How does applying with resit grades work?

I am currently thinking about resitting my a level maths and physics. the grades I achieved are D and D and distinction in music. how would I go about applying to uni with these grades, I'm confident that my resit grades will be higher by a few grades at least but I cant prove that to the unis. would I have to wait another year to apply with my new grades?

You say "I cant prove that to the unis" - does that mean you'll be studying independently, with no tutor or in-line provider to provide predicted grades?

If that's the case, then universities will likely make an assumption as to what your likely grades will be based upon your original grades (which you need to enter into your UCAS application, in addition to the "pending" grade for the retakes). I'm led to believe that a common assumption is that each grade will go up by one (so they'll assume that each D will be a C).

If you don't secure an offer you're happy with, then you'll need to apply via Clearing next August, once you know your actual grades. There's a surprising number of courses at decent universities available via Clearing, although they tend to go quite fast.

Hi,
I re-sat last year and got offers from universities for the same cycle.
In my case, my Sixth Form agreed to handle my application, so that I wasn't a private applicant. This was so that I could use their references. This also meant that they submitted my predicted grades, even though I was not enrolled at the Sixth Form and was instead tutoring myself.
As DataVenia said, the universities will not assume that you are going to go from DD to A*A* or whatever you are going for.
If your last educational institution is not willing to handle your application, I think your best bet (if you are confident that you will be improving your grades significantly) is to wait until the cycle where you have proven grades. If this is two years from now, it can sound like a long time, but one of my friends did it and instead of going to a mediocre university, entered into a top 5.

Whatever you choose to do I wish you the best of luck.
Thanks for the advice. I think i will wait till the cycle with proven grades, that sounds like it suits me the best.

Fair enough.
