i feel like giving up PLEASE RESPOND

Urgent help needed

Hi everyone, I study Maths FM Physics and Econ with A*,A*,A*, A predicted in them respectively. I would like to study Maths and Econ or MMORSE at Lse and Warwick and MAYBE MAYBE Cambridge but feel discouraged due to my A in Economics. My GCSES were 7-9 with a 7 in Maths, 2 of my relatives were extremely ill during that time but the school is refusing to write that in my reference. I also have had a lot of mental health struggles to the point I was referred to get medication by my school and wasn't prescribed it as I'm not 18 yet. I am so worrjed I'll fail and honestly the TMUA is killing me too, I get a range of scores from 5.7-7.4 and it just depends on the paper for me. I feel discouraged and don't know what to do. PS I am sitting the October sitting because I don't want to drag out the TMUA revision until Jan as I feel so behind already in YR13. Any help/advice good or bad would be greatly appreciated PLEASE RESPOND

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out, that must have taken a lot 🙂

I'm really sorry to hear about what a tough time you're going through at the moment. However you sound like an extremely capable and talented student who puts far too much pressure on yourself.

Ask the people around you for help - your teachers, your parents, trusted friends. If you are open about your struggled I'm confident you'll feel lighter and your teachers may be able to offer some practical advice for you.

When I felt behind in my studies, I used to stay an extra hour after school to catch up in the library, which amounted to 4 extra hours per week (I didn't do this on Fridays!) - but I'd say that if you're already doing similar, then you're already doing what you can.

Its important to give yourself time to settle in - year 13 has only just begun and you're still in the adjustment period. Also, it sounds like you're working super hard and perhaps not taking enough time for yourself? Its important to make time, even if its just a couple of hours in the school week, to relax and recharge - this will hugely help your motivation and protect you from burning out.

If you remember nothing from this post, remember this - you can do this, just keep going and try your best. Frank Sinatra once said that 'the best revenge is massive success' - if you keep going you can show yourself that you can rise above the difficulties you are facing. You are clearly a very hard worker with those grades and many unis will be more than happy to have you if you achieve something near that. Just keep going.

I hope that helps a little bit - very best of luck 🙂
