Adult nursing is absolutely brilliant.

There's so many different specialist areas you can work in as a qualified nurse.
Obviously it's hard work especially if you are working on a surgical ward as having to prepare patients for surgery and when they return from theatre.

Hi there!

I'm about to finish my adult nursing degree at LJMU and honestly, it's been the best three years of my life. I've had so many opportunities, and it's opened so many doors for me.

At times it can be challenging because you can have assignments due whilst you're also on placement, but it is doable.

As others said, there's so many different areas of work you can go into, whether it's the myriad of NHS services, private healthcare, the military, police or prison service, etc

Im pretty burnt out at the moment so probably the wrong time to ask 😂

I’ve had an interesting career so far, I’ve worked in roles that can be challenging, but are interesting and rewarding. I’ve been a critical care nurse for most of my career (I also have a side hustle as a university educator), I’ve been lucky to spend a lot of my career learning whilst working through a variety of courses which keeps me out of trouble.

However, the NHS isn’t an amazing place to work right now, the issues we are having are well publicised. It is challenging to do your job when lacking the resources to do it. This will pass, it’s one of those things that we go through, it’ll just take time.

If you are struggling to decide whether nursing is a career for you I’d advise you try to arrange some shadowing and try to talk to nurses working in a variety of roles. Hearing how it is from those working in practice will be helpful in making a decision.
