University admissions - vet med

Hi, for vet med all universities will have certain entry requirements (GCSE and A levels). Do they actually give all students, who meeting minimum required grades, equal opportunity to proceed with the application, or is it just an eye wash and they will only progress with applications of students who have achieved As and A*s. I understand final admissions are based on personal statement, work experience and interviews. But initially do they consider all equally if they meet basic entry requirements? Im asking because we have been informed by a school that it doesn't matter what the uni's entry requirement is, an application will not be considered if its not all As and A*s and that we should not consider this course. Any information will be much appreciated. Thanks so much.

I'm in the same position as you, I am also applying this year. Whilst getting higher grades is beneficial, I am pretty sure as long as you meet the basic requirements (grades, work experience etc) your application will be considered alongside everyone's else's, just scored a little lower if someone has more hours work experience etc.... Hopefully we both are able to study veterinary !
My daughter and I asked his question (or got the answer without needing to ask) at Vet Med Uni Open Days - from memory pretty much all the Unis said the grades were a 'gate' - if you met or exceeded them you got through (and if you didn't meet them you didn't get through), after that it was everything else that separated folks.

Having said that, again from memory, 6s at GCSE and As at A level was the requirement for all Vet Med courses - though I think Nottingham said they might have been okay with a B at A Level for some subjects

Thank you. Most unis (nearly all) want 7s and AAA (notts is AAB as correctly pointed out by you). This really helps as the school has been freaking us out.
