Start of Year 10 so they won't have predicted grades...

Hi,

To increase you maths grade. you should do 3 steps:

know all the content - learn any topics you don't know

then practice as many exam questions as you can

then practice past papers as many as you can
Best tip: if you don't know any questions or you are struggling to answer any questions, don't ignore it and ask you teacher for help. this will really help you.

I think the best way to improve in maths is to learn the 'how' as well as learning the 'what', if that makes sense. for example, why is the root of x^2-1 equal to 1 and -1? Well, you get the root of an expression when that expression is equal to zero. when is x^2-1 = 0? when x^2 is equal to 1, since 1-1=0. Now all we need to figure out is 'when does x^2 equal to 1?' Well, 1^2 =1, and (-1)^2 is equal to one. So x=1 and x=-1 are both solutions. I find developing intuitive understanding of maths in all areas is much better than simply learning 'ok we solve quadratic equations by doing xyz' without knowing how or what it means to solve one. Does that make sense? I hope so!
