Well done! Will you be firming or do you have other offers?

Thank you. I've recieved an offer from Cambridge which I'll probably firm, and haven't heard from the other two unis post-interview yet, so likely St And will be my insurance.

How has your application been going?

no acknowledgement - they went straight in with the offer!
offer received 08/10/24 for AAB including biology and chemistry
wish you all the best of luck!!

Received an offer from Cardiff today!!!
I'm incredibly lucky to be in the position of having 3 medicine offers, which is 2 more than anyone needs, and now have such a hard choice ahead of me in choosing where to go... haha
(I went to my Oxford college's offer holder day and well, the people were definitely very different to the medicine applicants from my school and those I met at in person interviews. My top 2 medical schools have always been Oxford and Cardiff and I honestly never thought I'd get to be in the position of having offers from both and having to choose, I always thought the choice would be made for me by a rejection(s)!)

I have my fingers crossed for all of you/your relatives, and hope you get positive outcomes from all the interviews you've done! <3

Edit: not sure why I'm adding this to be honest apart from self-doubt, but in case you think I'm lying (because you definitely can't believe a lot you see on the internet) here's my UCAS haha

So many congrats to you - what a wonderful position to be in 👏

If you don’t mind elaborating on your Oxford applicant day a bit more then I’d be very interested to know what you mean by the people were very different? No problem if you are not comfortable explaining on a public forum

I'll preface this by saying that meeting people for a few hours is definitely not enough time to make a comprehensive/accurate judge of character, but they were a lot more confident than medicine applicants from my school & surrounding schools in my area (I was apart of a local independent school's Medical Society as part of their outreach, and met applicants from the independent school and basically all the comprehensive schools in my area), as in outwardly confident in personality. I didn't get to speak very much in conversations, because to have spoken more, I would have had to actively talk over and interrupt them - like usually when meeting new people, there's a lot of listening going on, but here there was a lot of talking if that makes sense! They weren't unkind, just unlike people I usually interact with, and because they were all from pretty similar backgrounds (grammar schools) I think they clicked more with each other than me.
I don't know the innerworkings of my fellow college offer holders but I did get a slight impression they had gone for Oxford Medicine with an emphasis on Oxford, rather than Medicine at Oxford with an emphasis on Medicine. (Again if that makes sense! I feel kind of horrible writing this in case they see it - if I do choose Oxford and get the grades, I'll probably come back in a year's time and write "I was so wrong! They are actually such lovely people, and we're really good friends!")

Thanks for your open response. Of course no judgements to be made but its really interesting to hear. Sometimes I feel certain vibes coming from each med school’s applicants. Subtle, but noticeable even on the TSR threads. Though I can’t truly make up my mind if it’s just in my head or really there 😂

Im so sorry to read this and @Songbird19 it is not just in your head.. I am generalising but you tend to pick up on the vibe of students that apply to certain schools.

Also I would like to add "grammar school" isn't the reason for the confidence...its more cliques and opportunities. For example you're part of the outreach of the independent school so you're getting the same access and opportunity as the students of the school however when cliques form, especially in secondary school. The group tends to have a similar mindset. So for example there may be more oxbridge applicants..and the mentality encourages people to work harder. Schools with more applicants tend to cater their opportunities to demand. I had a classmate we called her career cambridge because she was like a 3rd/4th generation cambridge applicant and so her mindset was cambridge from day 1..its also easier because the school provides resources and all her friends applied to cambridge too..that mindset and environment really helps.

It also depends on the grammar school. In London, grammar schools and state schools are very similar and are even part of the same trusts (all schools have to be in a trust) and so opportunities are the same. However in locations like Manchester..grammar schools are private schools (which i think is weird - sorry if you're from manchester). Knowing this it was very common to go to a grammar sixth form even if you didnt get in for secondary..I think this balances the scales very well and access to opportunities

But anyways I hope you understand your experiences shape you and as oxbridge de-cliques you'll see more and more people from different backgrounds so yes you went to a state school but now you have an offer for med..so it all works out 🙂

Edit: I hate writing paragraphs ☹️
