Hi I’m currently in year 13 and am applying to university soon. I am applying for biology/biological sciences courses and the grade requirements of the universities I’m applying for range from AAA - BBB. I have achieved an A* in my EPQ which was on a biology related topic and am currently predicted AAB. The issue is that my B prediction is in biology which won’t look great on my application. I achieved a high B in my mock (2 marks off an A) and the exact same mark in a resit paper I did after. My school have also been using grade boundaries that are higher than those of the actual test which doesn’t make sense as both the mock and resit had year 13 content in them. I have emailed them asking if they are able to up my predicted grade but are being really stubborn, I understand I didn’t get an A in my mock but I was very close and they are using high grade boundaries! Also the reason I didn’t reach the A was silly mistakes and my exam technique - not a lack of understanding. It just doesn’t seem fair when other schools are predicting a grade or even two grades up from people’s mocks - my friend at another school got BCC in her mocks and is predicted ABB whereas I got AAB in my mocks and am predicted AAB. Also my friend in my biology class got an A in the mock (2 marks higher than me) but in the resit got a C (so my average between the resit and the mock is higher than hers) and she’s predicted an A! It just really doesn’t seem fair and I really love the subject and want to do it at university but I just feel so upset that they will not predict me an A, I’m not sure what to do at this point - it is only one university that does actually need AAA but it’s just annoying that my only B prediction is in the subject I’m applying for.
