Not sure about physio

Hi, I’m just wondering if anyone can give me any advice. I’ve recently started a physiotherapy course and have been doing it for about a month. But i’m slowly coming to the conclusion that i don’t think i want to do physiotherapy and don’t know what to do. I’m scared to drop out and that i’ll regret it but I also don’t want to stay here and can’t see myself happy in the next 3 years. Any advice would be great

This is problematic because you do not know what else you wish to do... and unfortunately, no one here will be able to give you definitive answer regarding the path you take.

You have some options:

1.

Continue, finish the degree and figure out what you wanna do after

2.

Continue and establish if this feeling is just transient but set a time limit or date for this, if it is continue the degree, if not, quit or struggle through it... I will say however the first year is often the easiest and the 2nd and 3rd years ramp up in difficulty - I had a transient feeling similar to you the first 3 months I was at physiotherapy school, but I started to enjoy it after some time and it disappeared; I finished degree and to be honest I am thankful I did.

3.

Transfer to a different course, either within or at another university - once you have an idea what you wanna do.

4.

Quit university all together and go find a job you enjoy.

Aaron.

What is it that your not enjoying ?
Is it something you can get help with ie; coursework ?
What drew you to the course and why has this now changed ?

No one can tell you what to do, it has to be your choice. I think digging into why you feel like this is important. Is it first week nerves or something deeper ?

It's very early days yet. Give the course a chance and see what you feel like once your start placements. All the academic work when you first start can feel overwhelming, but you'll only be able to tell if it is for you (or not) once you start interacting with patients.
Think about what you wanna do. I dropped out of physiotherapy in the first year, I took a year's suspension, but decided after the year I didn't want to go back.
