Year 12 work experience help

Hi I’m not really sure how to go about work experience, could anyone give me advice? I’m looking for something finance related, but I don’t really know where to start, everyone is telling me I’m applying late and I’m a bit worried. I’m in year 12 and I need 1 week of work experience around February, when I asked people from my school, they told me they already have a CV and other things to apply with. I moved sixth form, and I didn’t do any work experience in year 10/11 unlike them, so I don’t have any of this :frown: could anyone give me any advice? How do I look for opportunities ? I’ve been trying to google some but it’s not coming up with what I’m really looking for (a lot of it was about an actual job not work experience) so I’m super confused. Are there any opportunities I should definitely be applying to? Any help would be appreciated!

I would definitely right a CV. Many year 12 students don't have any work experience, so that isn't a big deal. I would include things like hobbies, current A-Levels/qualifications that you are doing with predicted grades. Also include the benefits each thing gives you and any other finance related things you currently do. I would then look at companies online, as well as just searching, finance/accounting work placements. Some large banks have a internship or work experience section on there website, so I would find and apply to as many as possible.

I would recommend signing up to websites such as uptree, speakers for schools, forage and springpod. virtual work experience is just as valuable and is something you can put on a personal statement - e.g. forage has some really good job simulations and normally gives you a certificate of completion at the end.

in terms of in-person work experience:
getting a part-time job or volunteering (e.g. in a charity shop or at a supermarket) is valid experience - it will teach you transferable skills like effective communication, time management and organisation, and responsibility - all of which are valued by universities and employers
work experience that related to the field you want to go into is trickier to get, but the key is to keep applying to things! just google searching will be extremely helpful e.g. 'law work experience year 12', but you can find options on uptree and speakers for schools too. remember, you might face rejection before you get accepted somewhere, but stay positive and keep applying. another really great option is insight days, and attending careers fairs to network with professionals from your chosen field

I hope this helps! let me know if you have any questions
