I'm stressing about sickness and absence

I took a day off yesterday and today because I have the flu, and today I started my period. I'm super unwell, but I have a mock test (that can be rescheduled) tomorrow. My teachers will authorise my absence but I feel really bad. I have 90% attendance currently due to also having had chickenpox for the first week back. Should I take a third day in a row off from sixth form?

Sleep on it and see how you feel in the morning? You might feel better then, or worse and therefore be more sure about whether you can go into sixth form. Remember your health should come before school and you dont want to spread your germs to classmates/teachers or prolong your own illness.

A proper rest will be more beneficial than just being present at school. If you feel good enough to study go, if not, you'd rather stay home and rest. In my opinion...

Hi @arsphenamine

I really hope you are feeling better, or at least on the mend. That is rough having been ill so much. If it’s any consolation I am a final year student at the University of Salford and was hit by a couple of viruses upon returning to university including the dreaded Freshers flu, so I have some idea of how frustrating it can feel like you are ill non-stop.

I hope if you weren’t well enough to attend your mock that you’ve been able to reschedule to when you are better and have had time to prepare.

Don’t worry, you won’t be the only student your tutors have had who has been affected by a string of illnesses. The previous commenters have given great advice - your health is the most important thing, so it is much better if you rest and recover fully than force yourself in and potentially make yourself more unwell (and potentially spread your illness to others). It sounds like you have already taken all the right steps such as informing your tutors as soon as possible.

If you haven’t already it might be worth touching base with sixth-form support too. It can be difficult trying to catch up on classes after being off sick; I have always found student support empathetic and encouraging when I have contacted them myself.

Sending get well wishes! Take care.

Lucy 😊
