Esat help needed 🙏

Hi so I’m taking the test this month and need some advice.

I’m doing maths 1,maths 2 and physics.

My questions are:

- how many questions should I attempt to get correct (there are 27 questions in 40 mins I believe and I am aware there’s no official ranking but what do u think I should aim for)

- because I am not a further maths student am I at a disadvantage for maths 2?

- Best way to prepare??? I have been revising for the past couple months but don’t see much improvement in my performance and I am incredibly nervous - I am going through TMUA paper 1 notes online but when I attempt questions I ALWAYS make stupid mistakes

- How to I get over the nerves? I tend to not get nervous when taking exams but this one is really getting to me. The thought of missing out on my dream uni is scaring me.

- when do we get results?

- will I still get an interview with a not so good result?

Thank you!!

Are you applying to Imperial or Cambridge or both?

1) As many as you can. What other answer could there be to this?
2) Look at the specification and see if you've covered all of the topics that could come up in Maths 2 section.
3) Do past papers for ENGAA and NSAA. Is timing the issue or is getting things right the issue?
4) Idk can't help on that.
5) Apparently around six weeks after taking the test. Your universities will get you score almost immediately.
6) Depends how good is not so good, you may, or you may not. Regardless, the ESAT score will still be considered post-interview in assigning places, so aim to do well in it.

Thank you for the honest reply. I am applying to Imperial only.

They website online encourages taking the October sitting which I’m doing but is there really a difference in taking it in January?

No there shouldn't be much of a difference if it's just for imperial. They recommend the earlier sitting because lots of schools do Mocks in January which could be stressful if you're doing the ESAT then as well, and also because there are more slots available in the October sitting.

Hi, i'm doing the esat too with the same modules as you. I've done loads of nsaa and tmua papers.

1.

27 questions is a lot to get through, I'll personally be aiming to get around 20-25 (max) because that should still give me a decent score and I'll be less likely to make silly mistakes with some extra time (fingers crossed)

2.

I'm doing further maths but maths 2 is just the year 13 pure content in normal maths so as long as you've covered that, you should be alright

3.

I've had the same issue with the mistakes in past papers, the only thing I can say is to get lots of sleep the night before and eat something before going into the exam

Thank you for the reply!
I’ve actually decided to move my ESAT to the January sitting because I would rather go through as much year 13 maths content as possible for the exam, and I’ll feel less stressed then.

fair enough, only reason im doing it in October is because I'm applying to Cambridge. considering you haven't done further maths, leaving it to January seems like a better idea tbf
