Boy drama

I like this guy and one of my kind of friends used to like him, though they may not like him any more. We are not close enough for me to ask about it. Me and the guy have some comment interests and I really like him. so if I added him on Snapchat or tried to make friends it him would I be the jerk?

Not at all. The fact that you don't know if this other person still likes him and aren't close enough to them to ask pretty much shows that you're not close enough to them that their feelings should be a barrier to you here. Even if you were a little closer, whilst you'll want to be aware of a friend's feelings, just being attracted to someone doesn't give you any sort of claim to them. You're perfectly justified in getting to know this guy a bit better here. Nothing to feel guilty about at all.

If you like somebody just go for it and don't be afraid about what anyone thinks even your friends. Do what you do in life for you, and if your friends don't like you going out with somebody well it shouldn't be their concern unless they're worried about your safety.
