english Help ‼️‼️‼️

Hi, just for context. I've never been smart in English I always had to work hard to achieve great results( tbf like any other ambitious student). In year 9 I received a target grade of a 5. During year 10 I've had some slip-ups but I never gave up. I told my teacher about my goal - A grade 9. She said at the moment it's not realistic and I should brace myself for achieving G6/7s. I told her if I did well in the mock exam I still had a chance. She said we will see. One month later - mocks - final result English lang -> G6 (surprised as I did a practice test two weeks before and got a 4🥶) and English literature -> G7. My teacher was thrilled and moved me next to the smartest boy in my class the G9 student. I believe this a sign she believed in me, well I haven't talked much with him but I have asked for ideas and read his essays - lovely person to be honest! As I'm in year 11, I need to be more serious and work towards those level 8/9s. Do you think I can do it and if so how? ( ie how often I should practise English, resources etc )

I would be eternally gratefulfor the help

Hi,
I hope you are well!

You should be so proud of yourself! And a massive well done for all the effort you have been putting in! It clearly pays off so keep going! 😊

With the progress you have made so far, I don't see why you shouldn't be able to achieve your goals!

While it was a long time ago now🤭 I remember attending as many of the revision sessions that my school put on as I could, and also found planning a revision schedule useful too. While I made lots of time for revision, it's equally as important to add in breaks and down time too, as you don't want to burn-out!

When I made my revision timetable, I scheduled in time for each of my subjects, and broke down my revision time into revising content, learning what the examiners were looking for, and practicing questions and papers.

Flashcards were really useful for me too, especially for writing quotes down in English, equations for Maths and Science, and key theories in Psychology.

I also made use of my teachers, and asked them to take a look at practice questions that I'd done, and what revision books, and extra resources were appropriate for me to use too.

I know there are some fun revision sites like Quizlet and Kahoot, videos on YouTube, and resources online from exam boards, but it's always important to check the specifications first to make sure you are learning the right content!

Speaking to teachers and even planning a revision timetable with them would be a great idea too!

I hope this helps!

Good luck with your exams! Keep up the good work!😊

Best wishes,
Josie

For English resources, here are the top ones:

Flashcards/ Quizz - Anki, Kaoot

General learnings: Seneca, Mr Salles on youtube

Practicing exams: AQA website: mark schemes, examiner reports, Tilf website

For how often: I would suggest practicing mock exams every week with Tilf or a private tutor to be comfortable with what examiners are looking for.
