How to write a scientific essay for university
My son has been asked to write a report in the style of an scientific essay, which describes an understanding of microbiology investigations, he’s just 18 and has not any experience with writing an essay. He has no idea how to start. I never went to Uni so don’t know how to guide him, so any tips would be welcome, thank you.

Hi my understanding of the differences between an essay vs a report is that an essay does not include headings or subheadings whereas a report does include headings etc. I don't know much about microbiology subject and the way it's written. In terms of a general essay, usually comes with the following structure. Start with the heading in Draft work first then if it is an essay you remove those headings before final the submission.

BODY PARAGRAPH TOPIC 1
BODY PARAGRAPH TOPIC 2
CONCLUSION
Has he done his research work into the subject and the investigation method etc. Has he been given a brief and learning aims for his assessment? I've not done a microbiology essay but will try to help or perhaps somebody on here who's done this subject before would be very helpful. Or message me direct and I'll try to help.
