Personal Statement Layout in UCAS

Hey guys! I completed my personal statement and its basically dangling on the edge, lol. Its around 3998 characters and exactly 47 lines, but I was worried the layout of the personal statement on the UCAS portal isn't appealing and maybe too hard to read. Like, I had to of course cut paragraph spacings in order to meet the 47-line limit but it just seems awkward. I'm guessing this is normal but is there a way around it? Or does it not matter much?

I think you should not care about it, you did a great job! 3998 words! I can just write 1000 around. But if you still worry about it, email the school, they must be glad to reply you XD

Hi @harikrishsomu

I wouldn't worry. The layout/format for a personal statement is always a bit abnormal as you're so restricted with the line count. Double check what you've written is concise and is worded in the most fluent way possible, just to make your text read well. Check everything you've included is relevant and make sure you've answered the question 'why should you get a place on this course?' by the end of your statement.

Hope all goes well with your application! 🙂

The advice from the pros on here (like @PQ or @Interrobang is to leave paragraph spaces if you can.

It's common sense, if you think about it. The easier you make your personal statement to navigate and read, the more likely it is to be read with full attention. This is your objective not to fill the 4000 character limit. Less can be more.

That said, it's not the end of the world, as personal statements would rarely be the determining factor for an offer.
