Do all subjects need exams?

I’m not saying do away with exams completely but I feel some subjects should be assessed differently things like History or or English could be better assessed by course work . The arts too I feel be portfolio based or performance based .

I also take issue with the way stem courses are assessed of course they do lend themselves to exams but I feel like they should also have a practical element to them.

What do you guys think should there be so many exams or could some subjects be assessed better in a different way?
