Hi I’m planning to apply for Royal Holloway as an undergraduate but I’m not sure which accommodation i should apply for. I know I want self-catered but I don’t know which one has the best value for money. Can someone help?

Hi there,

Thanks for your message.

We have a fantastic range of accommodation to suit a range of preferences and budgets. An offer of accommodation is guaranteed for first year undergraduates who apply by our accommodation deadline. Explore the variety of accommodation we offer here, and find out how to apply for halls here.

You can also ask our students about their accommodation experiences. Find out more about here: https://link.unibuddy.co/unibuddy/mYYGog3v7qbqXYDNA.

Hope this helps!

-Butler, Tuke, Gowar and Wedderburn all seem like really nice halls from what I've seen.
-I've heard lots of bad things about runnymedes water but I haven't actually been inside of there.
-Apparently George Eliot is quite nice but the price is a lot considering its shared bathroom.
-Penrose court is very cheap however i know people living there who regret choosing it.

If you are going for self catered the biggest piece of advice i can give to you is to avoid Williamson. The building is run down compared to the other en suite rooms that cost the exact same and most rooms inside are extremely damaged, most of this damage will not be repaired by the uni but you will still be expected to pay the full cost that other halls are paying for cleaner, undamaged rooms/kitchens.

Something also to be aware of is that the university does NOT clean rooms or kitchens over the summer. This lead to a massive fly infestation throughout the entirety of Williamson in the first week this year caused by rotting food left in one of the flats. Even during one of their open days over the summer there was mold in one of the Butler/Tuke rooms they were showing off.

If you want ensuite:

Tuke, Butler and Gowar would be your best options for double bed accommodation. These are the most expensive accommodations on campus though. Flats are 7 people.

Runnymede 1 is the best option for single bed. Cheaper than the double bed rooms and share with 6 people.

Wedderburn has more fire alarms than other accoms and Williamson is not as nice so AVOID.

Shared bathroom:

George eliot is double bed and you only share a bathroom with one other person which makes it much cheaper than the ensuite ones (and I’d say best value for money) but you share a flat with 12 people (which means communal areas are much nicer but it depends if you want to share with that many)
