Time to rock and roll on the interview prep now guys. Check any correspondence the Uni have sent you and definitely make sure you have read that GMC document. Historically Bristol have been big on that.

EDIT:

I have linked the GMC document in question below. You can also download it in PDF format in English or Welsh if you want to print it or write notes on it, etc.

In my limited opinion: don't try to rote memorise any part of it. Rather, just appreciate the key points and reflect broadly on how this might apply to you as a medical student and beyond. Remember: this isn't just any other degree. It's a professional course and like many other professions there will be 'expectations' of you if you join it. This also extends to your conduct inside and outside of the workplace and also to your own health. It also outlines many of the same domains that fully qualified doctors themselves practice under. In no time at all you will be in the clinical environment (this happens very early on at Bristol) and being trusted to engage with patients face to face, possibly without direct supervision. This is a highly privileged position but it is absolutely vital in getting you up to speed quickly with the everyday aspects of patient care.

If nothing else though, appreciate that the safety, comfort and dignity of the patient is one of your primary concerns as a doctor. This means that a lot of interview questions may well be answerable in such a way so as to link back to these GMC expectations- you may thus be able to start an answer by examining the question through the prism of patient safety or maintaining high standards of care. If you observed or did something specific on work experience where you think there might be an impact on patient safety, comfort or dignity (or patient confidentiality which is just as important) make sure you mention that in your answer and link it to the GMC guidance for medical students. Again, adopt the mindset that you're already on the course and show the interview panel that you're already thinking about these things and you're just there to show them this.

I apologise if the above explanation isn't that great, I am hoping someone else might be able to illustrate this better than me as it's tough to really outline exactly what I am trying to describe. I had a zinger of an interview question back when I was doing this and (tooting my own horn a bit here sorry) I replied with a pretty solid answer in which I made use of a specific example that happened to me whilst I was at work. I can't go into any detail but I can tell you that part of my answer very neatly dovetailed with the wording of the GMC guidance and considered patient safety closely.

I hope this all helps. I am sat here rooting for you all. Being offered an interview for Bristol really is a big deal and it's a really really great place to study.

E.

Hi, Does anyone know if all the interview invites have been sent out for contextual candidates? I'm assuming so as they get sent out earlier or just wondering if there are still batches left?? Thank you 🙂

i really hope so, i'm contextual (i think) and i haven't heard back yet, but my UCAT was 2960 B1 which is kind of low for Bristol so i'm not really holding out hope any more haha

I have my interview in 15 minutes! From my research so far and the excellent advice here on this thread from ErasistratusV, it seems the GMC document is essential reading, as well as the 4 ethical pillars. A good understanding of Bristol's curriculum and what makes them and the city itself unique also seems valuable. TheUKCatPeople have a great thread about Bristol interviews.

Obviously I won't be able to share any specifics about my interview afterwards, but I'll keep this thread updated about when I hear back from them post interview. Fingers crossed!

Wishing you all the best of luck 🙂

that’s great to hear
think it was updated circa September’24, though not sure how significantly ( ie just in case anyone is using the pre revised document, best to read the up to date version online)

🤔 don’t think Medic391 should feel bound to answer as no one wants to jeopardise a precious offer of a place to study medicine

aren’t we allowed to talk about how the interviews went in general? saying something went well won’t hint questions. people are just genuinely interested on how others found it, with no negative intent.

meant King should not feel bound to answer the question from Medic391 as I think it’s hard to answer the q re interviewers without giving information away but the important thing is just that people are aware of the danger and you can decide

But by understanding from someone that their interview went well while from another their interview went terribly bad, does not offer anyone any comfort does it? But just unnecessary added stress level prior interview!!

No one is stopping anyone from stating how their interview went but there is always a risk of subtely talked about interview through indirect probing.

All applicants are supposed to be bound legally by NDA, though it seems to me that not all really appreciate the seriousness and complications of legal binding NDA.

How was the interview?

Went okay I think. The interviewers were friendly if that reassures you 😊 now just the painful wait for a decision!!

Has anyone had their interview and been offered/put on hold/rejected? Just wondering what the general timeframe might be.
