Oxford choral scholarships

I am y13, and I have recently received an email saying that I had a successful choral award audition, meaning that if I get into Brasenose college I will be eligible for a scholarship. However, I am confused at what happens if my application gets reallocated to another college, or if I fail to get into Brasenose, yet get an academic place at another college. I assume that I wouldn't be able to keep my Brasenose scholarship, but would it then be possible for me to get a scholarship at the other college at that point? Would I have to wait until the choral scholarship auditions at the start of term?

Any information on the choral scholarship process would be appreciated, as at the moment I'm finding it very confusing.

Thanks!

My understanding is as follows:-

1.

If you obtain a place at Brasenose, that place will probably but not definitely be accompanied by a Choral Scholarship at Brasenose.

2.

If you obtain a place at another college which offers Choral scholarships, that college might but probably won't offer you such a scholarship.

3.

If you obtain a place at a college which does not offer Choral scholarships you won't be offered such a scholarship.

Oxford says:

"You should also note that there can be no guarantee of an offer of a choral award, even if you are successful in gaining an offer of an academic place at Oxford. Among the choral candidates retained from the September auditions by a particular college there may be a range of vocal ability. Inevitably, colleges will fill their choral scholarship vacancies in December with the strongest singers who also gain an academic place at that point.
It is only after the full admission procedure and academic interview in December that you will hear whether you have been offered a choral award."

Good luck in your application!

Hey, I got an email that seems similar. Would it be possible to know the exact wording of the email - did it say ‘merits further consideration’ or outright offer? Did it have a paragraph saying ‘no guarantee of choral award even if you get an academic place’? Thanks sm and well done!

Hi! I’m in Y13 and also received an email saying the same thing from Brasenose College - congratulations on being considered further! I was confused about the same thing so I emailed the college about what happens if your academic application gets pooled to a different college. The response I received was that if you are pooled to a different college, you can take up a choral award at Brasenose as a Choral Exhibitioner rather than a Choral Scholar (scholars and exhibitioners have the same responsibilities).

Hope that helps! Good luck with the rest of your application
