Surrey or Royal Holloway?

Hi! I'm looking to study psychology at Surrey or Royal Holloway (but I'll probably apply to both). Which uni do you think is better?

Ps I'm going to be commuting about an hour and a half to either uni as I live in south West London. Do you think it's worth it?

Hi there,

It's great to hear you're interested in Psychology at Royal Holloway! We have some guidance on what to include in your personal statement on our website under the 'Hints and tips' drop-down on this page which could be useful for you. It may also be worth taking a look at our Psychology department's webpage: https://www.royalholloway.ac.uk/studying-here/undergraduate/psychology/psychology/ to see modules, current research, and more that could also help inform your personal statement. You can also chat with a current Psychology student here: https://www.royalholloway.ac.uk/chat/.

Royal Holloway is ideal for travelling to and from if you live in London or the South East of England.
Many of our students choose to commute to our campus. From free parking permits and flexible learning options to access to University of London facilities, choosing to commute can be a great alternative to living in halls. Find out more here: https://www.royalholloway.ac.uk/student-life/being-a-student/commuting-students/.

I hope this helps - best of luck with your application!

Hi there!

Glad to hear you're interested in studying at Surrey.

Surrey is consistently well-ranked across the different leaderboards you can find, which reflects high teaching standards and student satisfaction. You'll be studying an accredited degree for the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) of the British Psychological Society (BPS). You can read more about the course here. Also, feel free to chat to our psychology students through our chat to our students page 😊

The campus is very centrally located within Guildford, so it's a 10-min walk from the town centre and train station, making things like shopping and socialising that much easier.

I commute to Surrey about two hours each way (if I'm being optimistic!), and it's been working just fine. I use emptier days to study at the library until whatever time I like (24/7 library), avoiding rush hour when I can. I also do some studying whilst commuting if necessary. It's definitely not a deal breaker for me, because I know the lecturers are more than happy to help if I have any questions or if I happen to miss a session.

I hope this is helpful!

Both are BPS accredited and so both are fine, you should go to whichever one you like best. I would recommend living in accommodation though as a one and a half hour commute will get really old, really quick.
