Applying for (BA) Hons CSM Fashion Design womenswear

I’m looking at applying to CSM fashion design womenswear course this year. I am in my last year of my UAL extended diploma in creative practice (specialising in fashion & textiles). Was wondering if anyone has any tips on what to include in portfolio, for interviews or anything else? And also wether I need to do a foundation year before applying or wether my extended diploma and portfolio is enough.

Hi, I'm also applying to the same course! You can see some requirements for the portfolio under the how to apply section. I've also previously had an interview from CSM for a different course, you just explain areas of your portfolio and expand on them to the tutors. Hope this helps! 🥰

Hi there @Janemk , in regards to your question of foundation, many of my classmates have done a Foundation in Art and Design to expand their portfolio, explore new mediums and experiment with their aesthetics! 🙂 However if you are confident with your current portfolio and have set your sights on applying for fashion design womenswear, you could definitely try and apply straight to BA 😃 Your portfolio should showcase your design process, so be sure to include any drapings on the stand, collages and design development alongside finished garments! Hope this helps 🥰

Hi there @Janemk , this depends on the university, as different unis have different requirements to the number of pages you can include within your portfolio. I would usually include at least 3 main projects showcasing your design aesthetic, visual research skills, 2D and 3D development, be creative and have fun with the layout 🙂!! If you are applying for CSM womenswear, they have quite specific requirements which you can check out HERE (under the apply now and entry requirements section, it is quite detailed)! 😗

You may also want to consider Kingston's BA Fashion (ranked no.2 in UK and no.1 in London🥳 for Fashion) as one of your options when applying through UCAS! Feel free to ask me any questions about life in Kingston, fashion or placement year! Hope this helps 🙂
