DSA Application for EUPD, Bipolar, Depression and Anxiety

Hi guys,

I hope you are doing well.

I was wondering if anyone can help me or provide advice for applying for a DSA application as part of student finance. I am ALOT older then most students (I will be 31), but I realise 2025 will be the best time to attend university.

I attended twice before and am going to be doing a compelling personal reasons to get years back of study (I don’t think 1 of the years I will be able to, but for one, I definitely can due to the grounds of my mental health issues and was undiagnosed at the time with bipolar and EUPD.) but that’s another topic.

When I was younger, I was in denial of having mental health problems but now I am older, I know I need all the help I can get so I don’t just quit or don’t turn up to uni like I did in the past. I want to make it work this time.

I currently get PIP and LCWRA from DWP so I know I am entitled to DSA and the special support grant. I am struggling to figure out what to put for my DSA application. I know I need an iPad ideally and a pen to write notes in lectures and also noise cancelling headphones to help me concentrate and stick to studying the course. I know I will need regular counselling with the university and perhaps someone to assist with helping me keep on track with my studies. Other than this, I am struggling to know what else I need for my severe Depression, Anxiety, EUPD and Bipolar and what to ask for, for my DSA application. I don’t want to miss anything off and then figure I do actually need something in the future but forgot about it. I do notice I get brain fog quite a lot now a days due to the meds I am also on but I don’t know what else to ask for in regards to my conditions and what they can help with?

If anyone knows what else I can advise on my DSA application, I really will appreciate it.

Thanks,
Jamie.

Thanks,

Hi Jamie, You will need to initially send the DSA application along with any supporting evidence of your conditions/Health issues from GP/Consultant. The DSA team will review all evidence provided to determine eligibility. If confirmed eligible for support they will then advise that you need to have a Needs Assessment where the assessment officer will make a report of recommendations to support you in your study and this will be returned to the DSA team for review for them to determine what support they can provide for you. Thanks, Angela

Hi Angela,

Thank you for your response. I really appreciate it. Yeah I have some medical evidence such as from the psychiatrist, CMHT, support worker, my DWP entitlements. I am also getting a letter from the GP as well. I hope this will be sufficient evidence.

Many thanks.
Jamie
