Good grades but don't want to go to university?

I got fairly decent GCSE grades and did even better at A Level.

However I don't think university is for me. I hear a lot of people say that it's for academic people but the thing is, it's never appealed to me. I think university is so overrated and I'd be happier settling for a job that pays enough to live off.

Is it odd for someone with good grades to not want to go to university?
Surely there are other options?

Absolutely university is not for everyone, and it is really important to make sure that the decision you make about your next steps is right for you 🙂

It really depend on your career interests - some careers require a degree level qualification to enter. Some university courses are very practical too, so while academia will naturally be present and important as theory supports your knowledge, there are courses where you may be very hands on, whether it be on placements in industry or through practical learning on campus.

You also do not have to go into university immediately after leaving school/college. There are lots of people who enter jobs first, and find that they want to further develop professionally later on in their career and then go to university or consider degree apprenticeships, so it could be something you consider later on in life. Or, some people decide that the job they are in is enough for them, and they are happy with what they are doing. The important thing to remember is that you are happy with the path that you take 🙂
