Hello Farhad, I think its best to do extra reading, the lecture notes can be a bit limiting and given that your area of study includes even calculation you can try something extra for your benefit.

Hey @Farhad_090,

I hope you're keeping well. 🙂

I'd recommend you do, as firstly, it doesn't hurt to go the extra mile, but also, you might find that sometimes your lecturers might forget to mention some interesting facts or details relevant to exams or questions that the textbook will help clear up. Plus, it can also be quite fun to read on more, and get a wider understanding of the subject at hand!

Warm regards,

David 🙂

Hi,
I hope you are well!😊

Just to add on from what Brandon mentioned, I think it's definitely worth doing some extra reading. Often, lecturers only have time to include the basics, which leaves lots of extra information left out. I would definitely recommend doing some extra reading, to support your learning and understanding, but especially when it comes to assignments and exams. I've found that doing extra reading and including extra information beyond the lesson slides, goes down well with lecturers, as it shows you are reading widely, and can build up your critical analysis when bringing in several viewpoints etc.

I hope this helps!

Best wishes with your studies😊

Hi @Farhad_090 ,

Lecture slides can be a good starting point for revising, but they typically provide summaries of key concepts rather than the full depth needed for thorough understanding. From my personal experience (now in 2nd year), I have found that doing the extra reading will help you gain more context, understand the material better and perform well in assessments. Balancing both lectures and extra reading will give you a more solid foundation 🙂

I hope this helps!

All the best,
Millie 🙂
