Liverpool or UEA for Biomed / Biological Sciences?

At the last step helping my daughter pick her final uni for UCAS - need to pick 1 from Liverpool and UEA, she likes both so a bit more info / perspective might be useful.

Liverpool seems to have a good department but is city campus (admittedly in a nice city). But doesn't seem to offer placements, which is a concern around employability.

UEA also seems to have a decent department, nice campus setting and do do placements. But a bit remote and been in the headlines recently, so slightly worried about student experience and the future

Morning 😊

I've just finished my psychology undergrad at UEA and am now staying on for my masters, so happy to answer any questions you/your daughter have! It sounds like she's done a good job narrowing down her choices.

I did a placement year on my undergrad and found UEA to be really helpful at supporting and helping me find placements. They supported me every step of the way and Careers Central (UEA's Careers Service) was excellent at helping me with my CV, interviewing skills etc., not to mention they host many events and career fairs. They're a super great resource and made sure they checked up on me while I was on my placement as well. The placement has really set up my future prospects well in terms of experience for my CV.

I find Norwich to be a really lovely city- there's lots to do and it has good links to London. I mostly used buses to get to the city in my first year and found them easy to use- despite never really using them before! The Norwich and Norfolk University Hospital is only a ten minute walk from campus- if that! So super handy to have nearby.

UEA also put on events like day walks to the beach which allows you to go out and see the country a bit more. I find it to be a really nice blend of city life and nature and have always felt really connected. The city had everything you need, like Apple, Primark or Hollister, and there's some lovely places to eat and a great night life scene.

If you want to speak a bit more about your concerns about the headlines and student experience, or if you have any questions in general, please feel free to ask me anything 😊

Best of luck!
Grace
