Can you recomend a really good Animation Degree course at University?

Hi there
Looking through University websites is not always the best way of finding things out!
I was just wondering if anyone here has studied Animation at University and had a really good experience.
We have just been to an Open Day for the BA Hons Animation course at Arts University Bournemouth and we are wondering where else would be good to visit.
Many thanks

Hi @Sonya55

Here at Kingston we have a great Illustration Animation course, found at our Kingston School of Art! This course is No 1. in London!

I would definitely recommend joining our next open day so you can view our amazing workshop facilities (these are what won me over at uni!), accommodation and to get a feel for the town and community. You can also take the opportunity to talk to our students and those that specifically have/are studying Illustration Animation.

We believe 'learning through making', which is shown through our open access workshop facilities. These are amazing and really interesting to get to work next to people from all different courses, learning from each other whether that's through university or personal projects. You can either use the printmaking facilities, or ceramics, possibly even woodwork or metalwork!

I hope this helped and hope to see you at one of our open days!

For animation; it can depend on what type of animation you are interested in, so I will be recommending the programme I teach on at Hertfordshire (because it is ranked the best in the UK by the Rookies awards; the world's most important animation awards for students), but you should also consider Arts University of Bournemouth and Staffordshire; if you want niche areas like stop motion animation you may have to look elsewhere as well.

Hertfordshire is ranked

Best 2D Animation School in Europe and Number Two in the World

Best 3D Animation School in the UK

Best Concept Art School in the UK

Best VFX School in the UK

Number Two in the World for VFX Production Excellence

You can see the rest of the universities and their work here:

Hiya, I hope that you're well. That's great to hear that you're considering an arts course at uni - very exciting. I'm a Graphic Design Student at Norwich University of Arts. Student Ambassadors from our courses are available to chat to via a platform called UniBuddy. This allows you to ask any questions that you may have about a specific course or campus. You can find our ambassadors here.

Attending open days is also a great way to get a feel for the universities and talk to staff and students there. A list of our upcoming events can be found here: Norwich Uni Arts Open Days. I personally found that attending as many of these as possible and also requesting prospectuses really helped me out. I actually collected quite a few of these before settling on a course/ uni.

Our prospectus and information leaflets also provide an insight into where our courses can take us in the future after Uni!I hope this helps and good luck on University hunting! I know it can be daunting, but I'm happy to answer any questions that you may have 🙂

Charlotte, Student Ambassador
