Is it possible to take a level sociology in a year?

hi i just started uni doing a foundation year. I sat my a levels this year and the subjects i took were geography, biology and physics. I only managed to achieve a C in geo and an A in my epq. I failed the other subjects so i only have 1 and a half a levels in total. I would like to sit a level sociology in maybe 1/2 years so that i have at least 2 a levels when im applying for jobs when i graduate. Would it be possible to self teach myself the whole course and take the exams in a year. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Hi, I'm a year 13 student who has done half of the content for sociology. Based on the difficulty of what we've learnt, I'd say it isn't too hard, just that there's a lot of content to know and apply in essays. If you want to do it in 1/2 years I think it would be possible as long as you get lots of exam practise and the concepts aren't too hard to learn in my opinion, it's the remembering all of it. As long as you're understanding everything you learn and making sure you cover all the content in time for your exam, it should be fine. Just that there's a considerable amount to know as with any A level. I would say maybe do a bit of research to see the topics and the amount of work to commit to it.
If you need it for a certain thing such as a course then definitely try it but if you're thinking of taking it because it's an 'easy' A level like I did, just make sure you know how much content there is and a rough idea of what you'll be doing.
Good luck

Hey, thank you for your reply. It seems like a really interesting subject after looking into some of the topics which is why I was considering it, and i honestly prefer essay subjects a lot more than the sciences. If the content is easier for me to grasp, I feel I would be able to fast track it in a year by putting in alot of time and effort into revision.
Good luck with year 13. 😊

I was predicted a D in Maths at the end of year 12 so I took on a Sociology tunnel course (whole a level in 1 year). I started it in September and we are projected to finish the course in April ready to sit the exam at the same time as people who have been doing Sociology since year 12. My school have been running this course for many years and students regularly achieve high grades... It is doable

Oh I see, how are you finding the workload so far? I wish my sixth form had offered this tunnel course as it would've been easier than having to self teach but it has given me hope that I'll be able to manage it.
Best of luck in your exams.
