I am torn between Glasgow and Newcastle for my exchange semester. What do you think is best city-wise?

Hi there,

Studying abroad is a fantastic opportunity, and even better that you are considering UK universities! I studied for a year in Montana and it was one of the best opportunities I've ever had.

Even though I don't know much about Glasgow or Newcastle and haven't studied there myself, hopefully some general advice can help you to come closer to a decision. Make sure to look at modules, class sizes, professors and their backgrounds, and further opportunities for growth within the university. If you have any specific questions for each university, it might be beneficial for you to talk to a student currently studying there. You can do a quick internet search for each university and add 'chat to a student', and usually you can see who you can talk to! Looking up the social media pages for each university is also a good idea, as it can give you a little insight as to what it might be like to study there.

When I was doing my search, I also considered non-academic factors. I compared anything I could think of, including the size of the cities, crime rates, transport links, food (especially if you are a picky eater!), and local amenities/campus services. As well as this, a quick search can give you so many websites that compare each city - all things to consider!

Personally, I found that no matter how much research I did, there was always some level of uncertainty. Studying abroad is a fantastic opportunity, but can also be incredibly daunting! Best of luck in your decision. 🙂

I hope this helps,

Have a look at the campus tour films and the tourist films for each city on YouTube.
Both are excellent Unis, both cities are full of amazing Victorian architecture, and both places would give you a great student experience.
