The Student Room Group

Ask away….

Hey guys! MMU Student Rep Molly here:smile:

With the academic year officially in full swing I thought I’d hop in and see how you guys are feeling about the upcoming year.
Personally, beginning my third year is daunting… but I’m excited for all the opportunities that are upcoming.
Let me know if you have any questions about life at MMU, societies, accommodation or if you just want a general chit chat, I’d love to talk this evening while I’m procrastinating my reading haha!

Hope your first few weeks have been welcoming!

Best wishes,
Molly x
Hi molly
I’m a first year business student at mmu. I’m enjoying my course but I’m feeling nervous about participating in group work that’s upcoming for assignments because I’ve not made any friends on my course.

Hey there!

I’m a business student at MMU too:smile: speaking from experience I know the business department are very supportive and friendly! I’m sure if you voiced your concerns privately to your tutor they could put your mind at ease.
For your group assignment do you know if your groups are assigned by the tutor or do you get to select members of your group? If you are automatically assigned to a group I’m sure this will relive the pressure of having to find people you gel with. It will also be a great opportunity to get to know people that you may not have gravitated towards otherwise, and this could end in a blossoming friendship:smile:
If you are able to choose your groups I can guarantee that there are loads of people on your course that haven’t found friends yet. As first years it can take a while for connections to be made in tutorial groups, especially if you’re shy. Maybe next seminar you have for this topic, try to search the room for people that don’t seem to sit with a group or speak to people often- chances are they are feeling the same as you and this already gives you something to bond over! But don’t stress about making friends for your group work, you will find your people in time. It’s also great to do group assignments with people you wouldn’t usually mingle with since this prepares us for the workplace.

I hope you find some comfort in this. Let me know how your group project goes!

Thanks for your question:smile:
Molly
