GCSE Entry Requirements for Uni

I am just going to ask whether if I can still apply to Newcastle University for a Psychology undergraduate degree, with predicted grades of ABB (currently taking Graphics, Geography, and Psychology) and GCSE grades of English (6), A science Subject Bio (6), but then my Maths is at (5).

It's likely to be a wasted application, I'm afraid. :frown:

At A level, they're asking for AAA. If your predicted ABB had been the only obstacle, I might have been tempted to suggest that you go for it. But that fact that they ask for "GCSE Mathematics, English (Language or Literature) and a science at minimum Grade B or 6 required", which you don't have, means that a rejection is almost guaranteed. (See here for their entry requirements.)
I agree, it’ll almost certainly be an auto rejection unless you’re retaking maths. It’s a fairly common requirement for psychology courses.

Thank you so much for answering my question. I really appreciate it. 🙂 . I think it would probably be best in my case to just look for other universities that aligns with my predicted grades and GCSE grades. 🙂

Kind regards.

Hi Denise,

Thank you for getting in touch.

We may sometimes consider those who have achieved slightly lower than our required GCSE grades on a case by case basis.

In order for us to look into this further with our Undergraduate admissions team, please fill out our Enquiries form including details of all the qualifications that you have achieved so far or are currently taking, including:

The name of the qualification (e.g. A level, BTEC, GCSE)

The subjects/units covered

Any grades/marks obtained/predicted, and the year of award

At this stage we do not need you to send copies of your certificates, please just provide a brief summary.

Lydia 😊

I got a 5 in maths , when NCL required a 6 for computer science , but I still got my offer because of genuine interest in the personal statements and super circulars I done , it’s not a wasted application.
