Would I count as an estranged student?

Me and my family are going through a lot of stuff at the moment. I reported my dad at school all the way back in June due to domestic violence. Now, I am in year 13 and hope to move out for university because I want to cut all contact from him. He is extremely controlling and manipulative. I've checked Student Finance England for the estranged student's fund and it says that you need to have cut off contact for 36 months which I have not done. Cutting contact with my dad at the moment isn't possible as I live with him but he may be going to court soon. Would I be eligible for the fund or not?

Hi there, do you still have contact with your other parent or is he the sole parent? Thanks, Jason

I do have contact with my mum but she doesn't have a job due to my dad forcing her to be a housewife. She should be on benefits but it's limited because she's still being married to my dad.
Hi there,

As you are still in contact with your mum so she would still need to support your application however you would be able to provide evidence from yourself in regards to being estranged from your dad. You would be able to complete the estrangement form and have a 3rd party who knows about the situation complete it as well. Do you plan to start in the 2025/26 academic year?

Thanks, Drew

Okay, thank you and yes, I plan to start in 2025.
Hi there. Apologies, we don't need an estrangement form for your father as Drew said previously.

We would only need your mum to support your application, even if she doesn't have income. She would just indicate she has no income when she is asked to support your applicaiton. We may need to see evidence of their separation, if she has any. Thanks, Leah.
