Uni course choice help?! 😭

So… I’m not scientifically inclined, so anything like that is out of the picture. I’ve gotten a few options, but all come with pros and cons 😭If anyone knows of any courses that might work for me, or are studying any of the courses I’m considering and can give advice, please tell me

Here are the courses I’m considering:
Fashion (pro: would love it, con: never sewed in my life)
Law (pro: leads to good jobs, but could be extremely overwhelming)
Classics (pro: enjoy it, con: niche)
Interior design (eh)

And here are the classes I currently take (I’m a S5 (Scotland) and currently studying my highers:

Mathematics
English
French
Classical Studies
Art & Design

So I would say you are here between fashion and law if you want any career prospects. Classics are indeed very niche and it will be overwhelming to find a job.
If I were you, I’d try and get some internship/unpaid work experience at a law firm and somewhere in the fashion industry. It could be for a week or two but it would help you immensely (that’s how I decided I’ll be doing law at uni!)
Perhaps your school has careers days or anything like that where you could get an internship or even talk to people?
When it comes to your subjects, I think you are good for both fashion and law, at least in the UK. You’ve got English/French for law (cz they want essay based subjects) and you’ve got art for fashion. Just see where your heart leads you!

Thank you! I’ll definitely have a look into what you mentioned and see if I can get any experience

Hi there, I’m also in the process of applying this year. I would say consider between Fashion and Law because they would definitely lead to good jobs. You seem to have more interest in Fashion, so that is something to consider. Additionally, I don’t think you should worry too much whether you know how to sew or not, because that’s what you go to uni to learn (also it’s never too late to begin learning). I have a friend who applied for Fashion Design and didn’t know any fabric work - they’ve graduated now and are doing great at their job! Highly consider Fashion. You may regret doing Law if you’re not 100% sure that’s what you want to study. But try work experience for both!

Hiya! I hope that you're well. I'm a Graphic Design student at Norwich University of the Arts and totally know how it feels to be stuck trying to decide on a degree!

My top tip would be to request a prospectus from a variety of universities (I think I got about 12 even though I knew half of them I definitely wouldn't be applying for), this is a great way to be able to read about course content from a few different courses in a few different universities. You can find our prospectus here where you can request one for free. Alternatively, we have information on all of our courses here: Norwich Uni Arts courses.

Attending university open days can also help you to get a feel for each university and what it would be like to study there as well as meet current students. A list of our upcoming events can be found here: Norwich Uni Arts Open Days. I personally found that attending as many of these as possible really helped me out.

Good luck in choosing a course, I know it can be daunting. Happy to answer any questions.
Charlotte, Student Ambassador.
