UNI

I've just started year 12 and im completely lost. I was so focused on GCSEs and I forgot I still have to worry about uni after. Last week I didn't even know what UCAT or a personal statement was. I just really don't know how to start planning for uni.
I have a few questions pleaseeee answer them

Which unis are good for studying psychology?
when do I start writing my personal statement?
what do i put on a personal statement?
what are the best programs and extra curricular to do to put on my personal statement?
How do UCAT points work?
When do I start going for university open evenings and where do I find them?

Hi, please don’t worry about uni applications or choices at the moment! UCAT is a test taken by MDV (medicine, dentistry, veterinary) applicants, I think you maybe be confusing it with UCAS.

What you can do is focus on subject exploration - look for psychology taster lectures, read books, sign up to outreach courses/summer schools, etc. You can put all of these on your personal statement, which I’d recommend writing over the summer of Y12-Y13.

Keep an eye out for uni open days around May-June of Y12.

Honestly, at the moment, just focus on school and getting the best possible predicted grades + figuring out what you want to do for degree. The most important thing to think about your degree choice, especially as I assume you’ve just started studying psychology in Y12 so you’re still learning what the subject actually is.

Best of luck for Y12

Hi @mayowab

Firstly, no need to worry, I can guarantee many in year 12 feel the same. It will all fall into place and you'll have some great support at school/college.

I can't tell you about other Uni's but we have a fantastic Psychology department here at Bangor, have a look:

https://www.bangor.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/psychology

We are the only UK Psychology Undergraduate curriculum with a human brain anatomy class.

You don't need to start writing your personal statement until September next year, but it's great to do some research on it.

The key main things to include are, why are you the right person for the course, why do you want to study the course, any career plans, transferable skills, be positive and write in a personal but professional manner.

Don't think too much about it at the moment, but above are just a couple of things to think about to include for the time being.

UCAT is a test you would complete if you are applying for medicine or dentistry.

UCAS points are usually what Universities ask for, for example 120 points is equivalent to 3 B's at Alevel or 2 D at BTEC. Take a look at the UCAS website to find out more about that.

You can go to University open days anytime now, you can find all dates at all Universities in the UK in the link below:

https://www.opendays.com/

Let me know if I can help with anything else, but like I've mentioned you don't need to worry at all.

Sera
