wanting to go to sussex but concerned about the ranking

im predicted AAA, and could get into russel groups but i've not liked any i've looked around. i fell in love with sussex and how good they are for psychology research, aswell as the area surrounding it, but the ranking of 32nd (1 website says 47th) and how they aren't russel group is just putting me off. im likely to stay at uni for a long time as i want a masters and to go into research, so i want to choose somewhere i love, and i dont see myself anywhere else, but im kind of expected to go to a russel group. what do i do? are there any better ranking unis with a similiar vibe (good for psychology and research, campus uni, lots of greenery and a vibrant town).
i would say if you're wanting to do masters/further research, a good thing to do is find a uni that you could happily stay at for the entire duration of all courses. do they have research in things youre interested in? is the masters good? because its basically easier to get into masters/phds if you already know all the staff, and are friendly with them, and interested in their research. basically, could you see yourself there for a long time, do they support research, do they offer research asssistant schemes, are the lecturers people who take on phd students, is the research of interest to you?
i'll be honest it doesn't hugely matter about the ranking, or about it being a russell group. if you will like it, thats all that matters.
It is BPS accredited. Study psychology wherever you like, makes zero difference.

Hear hear!

Rankings don't mean a thing. Go somewhere you'll be happy instead of somewhere prestigious but where you'll be miserable. You'll thank yourself later.

The School of Psychology at Sussex is very research active - they also really try and help you plan your career as well and encourage you to do PhDs with them when you graduate - they basically encourage you to try and align yourself with one of the many many research labs, and if you are proactive enough they kind of take you under their wing and champion your progression. I did my BSc at Sussex and then they encouraged me to stay on and do a PhD with them, which I did. I didn't need to do a Masters. They really looked after me throughout my PhD and after it as well.
