Girls at Imperial

hi!

sorry for this weird thread, but its all important:biggrin:

What is the ratio of male to female undergrads?(overall), and what is it like for maths? Also, are there any fit girls in Imperial, or are they all ugly (can't put that any better), hehe.

Do people generally come out of imperial being anti social, or is this only true of mathematicians, and physicists, or neither. My physics teacher is from imperial, and he is a recluse, that does nothing but physics, and he doesn't even have a wife! and he's 60 something!, lol - man, hope i don't come out like that, if i go to imperial.

Phil

That's a bit silly, he is not without a wife at 60 because of the uni he went to. Though the uni he went to seemed to make him able to accomplish what he wanted to do most in life physics maybe, which has grown more important to him than his social life?

7:3 male:female overall i think, maths its like 8:2. still quite a good ratio. there are definitely worse in imp. ratio of fit/ugly girls = depends on ur definition whats ugly to one person maybe fit to another. eg . dont just judge a person by their looks. anyway i would say the ratio for that is around 2:8 , fit ugly - for 1st years anyway. probably worse.

haha. i dunno. maybe u could talk to him, ask him what he thought,

uhh, the figures i know say that Maths had the 3rd highest ratio of boys to girls across all departments.

Top being medicine, closely followed by biochemistry. Chemistry should be up there somewhere as well. So maths should be higher than average.

man these threads about female to male ratios at imperial never stop coming. you shouldnt be worried man, theres enough girls around the campus you dont even have to look. and near to the engineering deparment is the royal college of music , so theres bound to be loads of fit girls there.

There isn't a lack of girls just in maths and physics; it's across the board, with the exceptions of medicine and biology. You'll just have to choose what's more important to you: girls or your subject. In my case I would say I'm erring on the side of the former lately, :hmpf:

why the former - does a lack of female company seriously affect people there phychologically, lol - that'd be a disaster. Do you regret going to imperial then? or do you think the academic standards far outweighs the importance of a fair gender balance at imperial?

you are next to the museums:biggrin: so that is a conselation!

seriously, can anyone explain this whole one-track mind thing that guys seem to have? kinda pathetic really.

I concur, there's this whole testerone driven atmosphere being formed is kind of putting me off the university itself. If you think you're going to go into clinical depression if you can't find a girlfriend at Imperial it's a pretty safe bet you will find one in the rest of London. Relax guys, It's not like you're going to be locked in for the next 3/4 years of your life with 8 girls for 2000 guys. I hope the majority of students are not as obsessed as these guys. I live in hope.

Of course. I think Ed is exagerating and over-reacting.

If you're coming here to do Maths I'd say there would be plenty of stuff going on without worrying about finding a girlfriend...I live next door to two people doing maths and it freaks me out, some of the stuff they're doing :P

That says, who cares? You came here to get a degree. Having a social life is probably a higher priority (for most...dare not generalise) than getting a girlfriend, and if this year's first years are anything to go by there will be no problem finding a party to go to any day of the week :P

In our hall of residence of 80 people there are like 2 girls I fancy. On my course of 200+ people there are possibly 5 people I fancy. THE ODDS ARE NOT GOOD.
It's easy to say 'just go out in London', but the fact is you spend most of your life with the people in hall and on your course.

Go out to other places then! It Saturday night, and your on the net  (so am I... but then, I'm not complaining about it).

Btw, who are the girls?

No, the odds aren't particularly great, but bitching about it on the net isn't going to help.

I'm on the net after going out, actually. And in my home town there are actually women, which makes the contrast all the more jarring.

There are women all over the world, Ed.
