Looking for a good sixth form in London?

hii

i'm in year 11 and was looking to move sixth forms. i'm predicted all 9s in my gcses, and i want to study medicine in uni - so i was looking for any good sixth forms that are strong in sciences (and history (?)) that would provide a lot of support and enrichment specifically for medicine applicants ?
i would be willing to travel ~ 1hr from central/south london, private schs are good if they have a good bursary or scholarship scheme lmaoao

i was looking at:
henrietta barnett grammar sch
spgs, jags
st olaves grammar
other state schools - kingsdale, brampton ? theres too many options lmao

any info on these schools or any other ones would be really helpfullll !! any experiences in these schools do sharee

thank uu :h:

i’m actually leaving jags haha. still, I think the sixth formers and general environment of jags is quite nice, light hearted and generally quite kind. Some teachers are a bit worse than others but quite a few are very good (especially in English and Biology). Overall, you would enjoy it and they prepare you very well to get into oxbridge. scholarships are definitely competitive but if you’re quite smart and inquisitive then you could probably achieve an academic scholarship. (i’m currently applying to Henrietta Barnett + kclms for yr12)

medical students are offered more epq support, a society, several biology labs, top notch equipment, brilliant help with oxbridge medical applications and the school generally achieves A’s on average. as for history, the history department probably has the nicest and most passionate teachers in the school

they're definitely a well performing school but over the past year i've noticed a decrease in competitiveness and grades and staff satisfaction (there's been many teacher + staff strikes in june and july). for me personally, i get bored being in the same environment for a long time so i've gotten a bit bored. also i fell out with quite a few friends in my class which makes it quite awkward to be at schl (no bullying it's just a bit awkward). overall it's a nice school, i'd just prefer going somewhere else.

i signed up to go to the hb open day but idk if i actually got a place T-T

It depends on your area to be honest, since I presume you're in the North (Barnet, Finchley) I'd say Christ College, Fortismere or Alexandra Palace, however, if you don't mind taking a slightly longer trip, it wouldn't hurt to check out Wembley High Technology College in Sudbury

Hope this helps! :hat2:

Seems I didn't read your question properly.

Check out Westminster Free School, Ark Soane in Acton, St Charles in Kensington, Ark Burlington Danes in White City or St Augustines CE High School in Kilburn

Hi, I'm a student in year 11 at Sutton Grammar, which I would recommend as we are known for doing well in the sciences with many students doing medicine every year and being accepted, and we just had our best-ever GCSE results, with our 6th form also performing outstanding again, and there's lots of help in the 6th form for things like personal statements and UCAS opportunities.
I study at brampton, bio chem maths and fm. I really like the style of chemistry teaching, we get given exam questions quite frequently. Bio is much more average tho, with your classic note-taking style of teaching and some questions at times. In terms of opportunities, law/finance are advertised the most in the google classroom. I'd say it depends on how lucky you get with your teachers... If you have any more questions lmk. (PS: I'm a Year 12 so for a more honest opinion you may want to reach out to a Y13)

youre so right, there's so many good sixth forms 😲 currently my first choice is kclms or iclms bcs im doing maths, fm + physics + they have the top ranking (also i'm a nerd and kclms has a nerdy type atmosphere lmao). my second choice is hbs bcs they rank quite high in a level's + oxbridge acceptance and i'm trying to get to cambridge. my third choice rn is natmatsci + lae/ashbourne r my safety's (wanted to apply to spgs but they don't accept applicants < 15 ☹️)

edit: i'm a bit averse to going to a school as opposed to a college just bcs i get on TERRIBLY with ppl younger + my age but that's just my preference haha

oooo ur v stem focused aha. kclms is so impressive, if i was more maths orientated i would defo apply. i love history too much tho haha. have u thought abt any other grammar schools? im not sure im willing to make the commute, even hbs and spgs is an hour and a bit away from me. its only 2 years tho ig

also - are there many people who get bursaries/scholarships at jags? particularly at 16+
