When teachers make predicted grades do they take your mock grade and just add 1?

Huh? No, teachers consider your overall profile to make a predicted grade. They very heavily rely on Grade 12 exams (which usually are way before mocks), bjt also take into consideration your performance throughout the year, your GPA in that subject, your growth… Ideally, they shouldn’t be adding points to your application just because.

I’m not from the US, I’m from Germany at a school that does IB:smile: The predicted grades for IB, an international diploma, are done the same way as for A-levels

Why are you getting predicted grades for you GCSEs? Is it purely for you? I would assume that it is the same but since you don’t apply to university after GCSEs, you don’t need the predicted grades. I didn’t have any predicted grades for mine—just the mock results and then we went into the exam session.

Understood, yeah, that's important. I would still say that they do not add a point on top, unless they are a very generous teacher (some indeed are like that). Typically it is as simple as how much they think you will get in the real exams, looking back at your mocks but also the progress you had before them.
