Chem eng or chemistry for future carriers

Hello, i am a y13 student and currently undergoing the cannon event of chem or chem eng both for a masters. I take chemistry maths and physics for my a levels and am also the recipient of contextual offers and also care leaver bursaries so that affects my uni opinion alot.

This is going to sound really bad but all i want to get is alot of money in my future jobs. i have been looking into both chemistry and chem eng degrees and have work experience in both and lots of reading into chemistry. i like chemistry alot but i cant find many ideas for the future if i take that degree so if anyone has any suggestions please let me know as i like both degrees and dont know which one to choose. i plan to send of my application start of November
Sorry you've not had any responses about this. :frown: Are you sure you've posted in the right place? Here's a link to our subject forum which should help get you more responses if you post there.

If you haven't done already, go to some Uni Open Days and listen to the subject presentations for both subjects. Talk to students on each course and find what sort of careers they are aiming at.

There are a wide range of degrees that include Chemistry - some suggestions :
Chemistry with Management BSc | Study | Imperial College London
BSc Chemistry with Computing | Study at Bristol | University of Bristol
Chemistry with Medicinal Chemistry and Drug Discovery BSc - University of Birmingham
Natural Sciences - Lancaster University
Petroleum Engineering | Undergraduate Degrees | Study Here | The University of Aberdeen (abdn.ac.uk)
Etc.
Remember, you could also do a more general Chemistry degree, and then specialise at postgrad level.

Hey!

I’m Oliver and have just completed my fourth year in natural sciences studying synthetic chemistry and biochemistry pathways. Natural Sciences is a fantastic option if you're torn between multiple subjects so thought I’d share a bit about my degree.

Natural sciences is definitely one of the most flexible degrees out there allowing you to study across two or three different departments. At Lancaster there are so many different pathways to choose from across all branches of chemistry, physics, maths, biology, geography and even engineering so you would have the option to study both chemical engineering and chemistry giving you skills that would make you employable in both industries! Each university will do pathways slightly differently and a have a varied range of possible combinations so definitely check that out on the relevant websites. The full list of pathways and entry requirements for Lancaster can be found here: https://www.lancaster.ac.uk/natural-sciences/

There is also the option to alter you pathway choices as you progress through your degree. For me this was extremely valuable as I was able to drop my physical chemistry pathway after first year to allow for a greater focus on biochemistry.

One of the best things about natural sciences is the vast range of experiences you get and people you meet. Since you study alongside the single honours students across multiple departments, you get to see so many more faces and there is never a lonely lecture. It’s also great to see how all the different sciences interlink and you can often apply something you learnt in one subject to one of your other pathways which is fascinating!

Hope that is helpful and best of luck with your decision 😊 Feel free to ask me any other questions if you have any
