Rank 148 for cardiac science (40 posts) 🥴

This is weird.. if it's 2 interviews per post like it seems to be, and they've also said that there are the same number of reserves as there are posts, then your rank doesn't add up hmm...

I would make a note, there's quite a few cases in this thread of people giving their thoughts/speculation/opinion on how the process works. If you haven't heard it from NSHCS directly then its just speculation - which is fair to make, but just keep that in mind

Where did you see that? The posts this morning would suggest it's around 2 per post

Another one -----> Rank 148 for cardiac science (40 posts) 🥴

Hi all, just wanted to share a message of hope for those with STP rankings that were not as good as they hoped. I have applied for the STP the last 3 years, 1st year not longlisted, 2nd year shortlist on hold (ranked 29 for 10 places), this year with the same application rank 72. Luckily for me this year it doesn't matter as I've got a job as a clinical scientist trainee on IPEM route 2 for HCPC registration. The job I got was advertised for a fully qualified clinical scientist but I emailed the head of department and he encouraged me to apply and got accepted into the role as a trainee. It's taken me 3 long years to get here so don't be disheartened if this year isn't your year, you might not even need the STP!

I’ve just had a look into this route and it looks like this is only available for those that did an MSc in medical physics or clinical engineering, is this right?

How come? If it's 2 interviews per post, you should be shortlisted (interview)

I’ve been ranked 208 so there must be loads of reserves for cardiac science!

You should check with them. This is very weird. Who knows their algorithm made an error

62 for cancer genomics…. Think there’s 13 posts?

Reply 1172

Just got my rank for genomics & my chances are practically non existent 😂. Still happy I made it this far. Congratulations to everyone for coming this far! Anyone who got through to interviews for genomics would you mind sharing the type of experience you have and how you went about writing your statement?

Ranked mid 40s for clin biochem and reserved so would assume it’s 2 per post

Reply 1175

I'm rank 55 for clinical engineering, there's only 14 places I have absolutely no chance 😭

If it was 3 people offered interview per post then I think I would have been offered. Theres 16 places, 16x3 is 48 and my score is lower than that? So maybe only 2 per post?

Well, let's esaminate the worst scenario:
At the first available interview they are going to call the first three candidates in line (1st, 2nd, 3rd). If the place is offered and accepted straight away (to anyone of those candidates), at the second interview only three of the first four candidates will be available. Let's say the 2nd has been offered a place (and that they also accepted), then at the second interview there will be the 1st, the 3rd and the 4th candidate... And so on for every next available interview.
In this case, that doesn't take in consideration the candidates preferred areas, if there are N places available and they interview M people each, only the first N+M-1 candidates would be interviewed.
This is the lower bound in the worst scenario. Keep this in mind and don't boil your brain anymore.

I’m a bit confused too. For genomics there’s 17 posts and I was thinking if they interview 3 people per post that means 51 people got interviews. What I’m not getting is how many people get put on reserve, is it another 51 or 17? Because that could change a lot for a lot of people!
