University appeal due to mental health

Hi,
I have been terminated from my studies and my visa has been canceled by the university. As I got failed in one module they terminated me. From the starting of my 2nd year I had some problems going on with my family and because of that I had to see a therapist, the situation got more worse and I’ve to travel back to India and in exam period I had to get an emergency appointment with a dentist. I failed the exam and then university gave me a chance to resit but I also failed in it. Right now, I have appealed to the uni attaching the 2 appointment confirmations and a letter from my therapist. Could anyone please help me out whether the university will approve my appeal or not?

It really depends on the university. Some are helpful, some are not so helpful. I'd suggest speaking to your Students' Union and also, if the university has its own advice service (it may be called student support or something like that), speak to them too.

Hi,
I did everything to contact the ug appeal team but they are not responding to my mails and student union doesn’t have any idea what to do next or by when I can hear from them.

Which university is it if you don't mind saying? They should have a separate thing, not just the ug appeal team. Something called student support or welfare advice or something like that. Some universities have a "one stop" place to go to get information / advice. For example, Salford University has a desk called 'Ask'. Some may call it a 'Student Info Point' or something like that.

I'm sorry your union is useless. It may be worth contacting the local MP in your area. Prepare for the worst but hope for the best.

If you have a personal tutor or your university has a dean of school, they may be able to help you get the right support.

It’s Lancaster University, yeah they do have something called ASK, I do had a conversation with my support advisor at student union. And I don’t have a personal tutor and the module teacher is not helpful at all. I have submitted the appeal on 26th September and till now I haven’t heard from them at all. When I mail them they don’t reply they say don’t mail us again and again as it may delay the process while responding to the students. I don’t know whom to contact and the classes has already been started and the visa team said we have canceled your visa within 60 days prepare to leave the country. The situation is kind of stressful.

Thanks for the extra information. Well, I'm not an expert, but here's what I suggest, based on what I've found about Lancaster University:

Do contact ASK if you haven't already. You mentioned that you've had a conversation with a support advisor at the union but earlier you said that the union were not helpful, so start with ASK.

As it's stressing you out, contact the wellbeing team too. Information on both ASK and the wellbeing team can be found here: https://www.lancaster.ac.uk/welcome/support-for-students/

Contacting the wellbeing team may help you with the stress - and you'll also have evidence that the situation is affecting your mental health.

But I don't want to give you false hope, so do prepare for the possibility that you will have to leave. You can perhaps save up and return next academic year, or maybe go to a university in another country. However, try those above two avenues first and try to be patient.

Hi,
Thank you for the information but I attached all the possible evidence, if they want my reports or therapy notes I can provide it to them but I’m not sure just for 1 module can they ask me to leave the university.

I don't know what the UK's visa rules are so I'm not sure whether they can or not. But if you've submitted everything you can and contacted the people you need to contact, I guess all you can do is wait and hope for the best.
