Mental Health UCAS

Hi. I recently applied to Cambridge, UCL, St Andrews, Manchester and Leeds for History of Art and was worried if I’d be disadvantaged because I put some details about mental health issues on my UCAS application. My teacher told me to be honest and put them down so unis can better support me if I get in but one of the other teachers told me that unis might discriminate against me because they’ll think I can’t handle the workload especially Cambridge. I put down ‘Panic attacks in crowds, extreme stress sometimes, anxiety-induced insomnia’ if that helps in any way.
Where did you include this, in your personal statement or somewhere else in the application?

In the UCAS section ‘more about you’. I didn’t include any of this in my personal statement. My teacher did fill out an extenuating circumstance form though

In that case only the extenuating circumstances section will be visable to admissions teams. The 'more about you' section is for monitoring purposes and might get you on the radar of wellbeing services if you end up with an offer.

The extenuating circumstances bit is used to consider fairly the circumstances in which you achieved certain grades, or why your predictions might be a touch low. Unis dont discriminate with this, it can only aid your application.

Thank you for your answer. I really appreciate it

Hi, this is unrelated to your question, but I just wanted to reach out as I haven't seen anyone applying to similar universities with the same course as me so far! I've also applied to study History of Art at Oxford, UCL, Edinburgh and St Andrews. It's so exciting to see someone in the same boat as I am! I've applied on the 23rd of September, may I ask when you have/or planning to apply?
