Economics, maths, further maths for an economics or finace degree?

I am currently in year 12 and I am currently studying maths, further maths, econ and physics. I am not enjoying physics so I am thinking about dropping it. I know that this leaves me with a smaller spread of subjects but the only uni ive heard needing a spread is lse and i dont want to go to lse. However, i still want to go to a top uni like bath , oxbridge or warwick. Do you think these a levels will be enough to get offers from these places?

As someone doing those three subjects (plus chemistry) you may want to wait a bit before dropping to know better how you are likely to perform at each subject. I know lots of people who went into year 12 expecting to get all As and A*s predicted, but instead got some Bs - and these were people who got all 8/9s at GCSE. Further maths is definitely difficult so if you have any doubt about being able to get an A at the end, don’t drop physics. For economics most russel group/ equivalent unis want at least AAA, so a B in further maths or any other subject would really limit your uni choices.

Hey @Fkdkskkf,

Maths, Further Maths and Economics should be a perfectly fine A-Level combination for most top Economics degrees - typically, the subject requirements only state Maths and occasionally Further Maths (if offered by the school/college). If you're not enjoying Physics and think it might lead to a lower grade in the subject in the long term, there shouldn't be an issue with dropping it; however, it's still relatively early in the year, and it might be worth waiting until your first class test/mock exams to see how you're performing overall.

Best of luck!

Dropping physics reduces your chances of admission in science courses. However, if not interested in that line of career, it shouldn't be a bother
