I think it depends on the individual. I took both but I really enjoyed both of them equally. Psychology is to with why people behaviour in certain ways and the studies behind it where as sociology is to do with theories (Marxist, feminist etc) and how their view points affect society and the different class systems, gender etc.

Sociology has longer mark essays (30 and 20) but you’ll only get one or 2 or they’ll be half essays but psychology has shorter marks (16) but you can get 3 or 4 and half essays.

It just depends on what you prefer and what you want to do after sixth form. Hope that helps!

Everyone is different - and what each person finds interesting is different.
Do not base your decision on what other people 'think'.

As someone doing both for a levels, sociology is very enjoyable but also VERY content heavy so if you choose it you have to be quite dedicated

hello,
so i do a level sociology and i’m currently in year 13. in my opinion, if you enjoy subjects like english and history then a level sociology is for you. but if you prefer subjects like maths and science then a level psychology is for u. this is what someone told me which helped me pick sociology as i knew i preferred english and history.
hope this helps

Hey! I did A Level Sociology instead of Psychology. I really enjoyed it tbh and I found the syllabus easier than Psychology (my friend studied both Psychology and Sociology and she said the latter was much easier). Hope you this helps 🙂.

@Shemixx

I did my degree in Sociology and my masters in Psychology.

Psychology has more natural science in looking at the brain, neurotransmitters etc.

Sociology still has an aspect of science but it is more to do with statistical analysis (cause and effect), but that is part of psychology too.

If you do want to go on and do a social sciences degree at University, I would have an action plan of what career you want.

Many social science students go on to work for local councils, go into areas like teaching (with a PGCE), or do graduate management programs for big blue chip companies like the banking sector
